Corporal Christopher “Chris” R. Judy, Peachtree City Police Department.
A woman fell out of her motorized boat on Lake McIntosh (PTC) and the boat was spinning out of control. Cpl Chris Judy was on his way home when he responded to the call pertaining to an individual struggling in the water. Upon arrival at the scene Judy saw the woman about 100 yards off the shore, struggling and yelling for help. There were no other boats available to use, so Cpl Judy ditched all of his mission-essential equipment and entered the lake. Keeping the victim in view he swam to her. In his report he stated “She appeared to be out of breath and I could see bruising on her nose where it appeared that she hit something. I told her I was there to help her. I asked her if she could still swim and she said ‘yes.’ I told her that I was going to assist her … reaching my right hand under her left arm pit and started to assist her ….” After a kayaker came by and took off his life vest and gave it to Judy, “I told her to put it under her arms so that she could rest some and aid her in getting to the boat ramp.” Upon reaching the boat ramp, other officers and medics assisted the woman (she refused medical treatment).
Another citizen retrieved the boat (once it stopped spinning out of control) and brought it to the shore to Cpl Judy. Incident occurred 6 Jun 2017.
